THE 2nd NEW YORK CHINESE FILM FESTIVAL AWARDS UNVEILED

On Friday, November 11, 2011, the 2nd New York Chinese Film Festival held its Awards Reception Ceremony at Capitale NY.

“The New Asian Director Award goes to Xiao Song Gao for My Kingdom, and Tao Jiang for One Wrong Step. The Most Popular Asian Artist Award is earned by Bao Qiang Wang for his lead role in Hello! Mr. Tree, Hailu Qin for her lead role in The Piano in a Factory, Geng Han for his lead role in My Kingdom, and Vivian Hsu for her lead role in Sleepless Fashion. The Most Outstanding Asian Director Award is taken home by Tony Ching Sui-Tung for The Sorcerer and the White Snake,” announced Alan Chow, Executive Director of Chinese American Arts Council.

XIAOSONG GAO and TAO JIANG are part of a new wave of Chinese directors making a name for themselves in the last five years with their unique visions. BAOQIANG WANG, award-winning Chinese actor, has appeared in blockbuster films and TV series, including A World Without Thieves, The Assembly, Soldiers Sortie, My Brothers Named Shunliu, Fire of Conscience.

GENG HAN, is one of the most popular singers in China today, the young heartthrob actually staked his claim on stardom in South Korea as the only non-Korean member of the wildly popular boy band, Super Junior.

HAILU QIN, she is best known for her role in Fruit Chan’s Durian Durian, which won her five awards, including Best Actress at the 2001 Golden Horse Awards and was nominated at the 57th Cannes Film Festival.

VIVIAN HSU, with a huge following in China and Japan, she divides her time between film, modeling and music. Her major film works include: Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale, If You Are the One, The Accidental Spy starring Jackie Chan.

TONY CHING SIU-TUNG, began his career in cinema as an actor and martial arts instructor in the early seventies in Hong Kong and following a long career as an action movie choreographer, he debuted as a film director in 1983. Other important works include: Curse of the Golden Flower, House of Flying, Daggers, Shaolin Soccer, The Chinese Ghost Story, A Better Tomorrow.
