METS TO HONOR HURRICANE SANDY HEROES OPENING DAY AT CITI FIELD

The New York Mets today announced they will honor heroes and volunteers who have played an integral role in the response to Hurricane Sandy in a pre-game, on-field ceremony on Opening Day, April 1 at Citi Field. JULIAN CHANG WINS HUMANITARIAN AWARD at Miami Beach International Fashion Week

On March 20, designer Julian Chang showcased at the country’s largest International and Hispanic fashion event, the 15th annual Miami Beach International Fashion Week at the Miami Beach Convention Center. This year, the event was the center of attraction for all fashionistas with the arrival of more than 60 designers, who presented their exclusive designs and over 100 celebrity guests in attendance. Buddhist Tzu-Chi Foundation Holds Hurricane Sandy Photo Exhibit

On October 29th of 2012, Hurricane Sandy blew into the North Eastern United States, causing flooding, loss of power, and property destruction on an unprecedented scale. The next day, the members of the Tzu Chi Buddhist organization began mobilizing its members to help. Over the last five months, the foundation has donated a large amount of hot food, blankets, and money to the victims while volunteers have converged on the disaster zones and have been tirelessly helping families in need in their efforts to rebuild. Tzu Chi members abroad have also been raising funds to help with the disaster relief while members in North America have gathered in New York and New Jersey to cooperate and aid in whatever way they can. « more »

NYC Children's Orchestra 19th Annual Discovery Gala Concert

The Children’s Orchestra Society’s Young Symphonic Ensemble, featuring 47 talented young musicians, under the baton of COS conductor and music director Michael Dadap, will present the 19th Annual Discovery Concert and Benefit Gala at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center on Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. Violinist Christine Kwak will be COS’ featured guest artist, performing Tchaikovsky’s violin Concerto in D, Op. 35. COS’ 2013 Senior Discovery Awardee, 13-year old Kenta Nomura will perform the Paganini’s Violin Concerto in D, Op. 6. The concert program also includes Bernstein’s Candide Overture and Dvorak’s Symphony #9, “New World.” « more »

A new production of Hikobae, a play about the medical staff who risked their lives following the devastating earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters that struck Japan on March 11, 2011 will premiere in Los Angeles on March 30th & 31st and New York on April 5th & 6th. Hikobae honors the first responders and those who lost their lives in the disaster. The significance of remembering the victims and sacrifices of the first responders is particularly relevant two years following the events of 3/11. « more »
