Long-Bin Chen: Composers at Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts

Find yourself face to face with some of the world’s greatest composers at the Kimmel Center’s most recent art installation. Internationally acclaimed Taiwanese artist Long-Bin Chen’s unusually realistic sculptures, aptly named “The Composers,” is the second of public art installation in the Kimmel Center Plaza. The sculptures are on loan until June from the West Collection through a partnership with SEI.  The first exciting installation, Jonathan Schipper’s “The Slow and Inevitable Death of American Muscle,” simulated a head-on collision of two-muscle cars and was on display for 90 days. « more »

It is estimated that by 2050, the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) population in the United States is projected to reach nearly 40 million people. As our nation becomes increasingly diverse, it is critically important to promote college success among students of color. Minority-Serving institutions (MSIs) enroll a disproportionately high concentration of low-income minority students, reinforcing these institutions’ relevancy to our nation’s higher education policy priorities of increasing college degree attainment among all students. Unfortunately, MSIs often face an array of problems including underfunding, low retention rates, and overall performance levels. « more »

The American Tap Dance Foundation’s (ATDF) annual Gala in support of the Gregory Hines Youth Scholarship Fund will be hosted this year by comic actor, dancer and performance artist Bill Irwin, with a special appearance by Ana Gasteyer, former Saturday Night Live cast member and current star of ABC sitcom Suburgatory.
