The Philippine Independence Day Council Inc. (PIDCI), a nonprofit organization best known for the largest Philippine Independence Day Parade outside the Philippines, which is also celebrating its silver anniversary this year, is all set to host its annual Philippine Independence Day Parade, accompanied by an all-day street fair and cultural festival, stretching from 38th Street down to 23rd Street and Madison Avenue, on Sunday, June 1, from 11:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. « more »

Complete Lineup for THE 13th NEW YORK ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema in association with Japan Society announce the full lineup today for the 2014 New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), which will take place June 27 – July 14. The festival of popular Asian cinema will showcase 60 feature films, including 1 major international premiere, 20 North American premieres, 6 U.S. premieres, and 11 more films making their New York City debuts. The festival will be attended by over 20 star filmmakers and celebrity guests traveling from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. « more »

Support National Asian Artists Project's New Muscial, OLIVER!

National Asian Artists Project (NAAP) will present the classic Charles Dickens musical, OLIVER! this June as part of the Re-Discover Series. With book, music and lyrics by Lional Bart, OLIVER! has become one of the most popular musicals in the world. NAAP will be presenting the London version of this show under the direction of Steven Eng and choreography by Baayork Lee. The 25th Anniversary Exhibition In Commemoration of the Tiananmen Square 1989 Student Movement

In collaboration with Whitebox Art Center, Asian American Arts Centre presents, “China: June 4, 1989”, an art exhibition. The public is welcome to this beautiful gallery on the lower level, which is open from 11:00AM-6:00PM on weekdays and 12:00PM-6:00PM on weekends, from June 1st through June 10th. Curated by Robert Lee, the exhibition features works from artists that were part of the original 1989-90 exhibition. The white walled gallery with its high ceiling will be transformed into a commemoration of this much-celebrated exhibition. « more »

Miss Angel Model Contest has kicked off now! This is a non-profit charity event that is hosted by the Chinese Chamber Of Commerce, the Promise Society, and Hoocca Corp. The purpose of this event is to promote Love and Contribution among young people. Although, most of the teenagers don’t have the financial strength to help the community, their hobbies and dreams can actually help them succeed and influence everyone around them. We want to make younger generations aware of the importance of charity, and enhance their willingness to provide contributions to the community. AARP and AARP Foundation Announce Recipients of Typhoon Haiyan Relief Funds

AARP and AARP Foundation donated more than $1 million in emergency relief funds to support victims devastated by Typhoon Haiyan (also known as Yolanda), one of the largest and strongest storms to make landfall in recorded history. AARP and AARP Foundation matched contributions dollar-for-dollar up to $500,000 and distributed those funds to relief organizations to provide meals, medical care, shelter, and other forms of support to those in need, particularly older adults who are disproportionately affected during times of crisis. « more »
