On 5th Anniversary of Japan's Earthquake and Tsunami, Japan Society Gallery Looks to Japanese Photographers To Express What is Beyond Words

Japan Society Gallery in New York will present In the Wake: Japanese Photographers Respond to 3/11 beginning Friday, March 11, 2016, five years to the day since an enormous earthquake and tsunami struck northeast Japan, devastating coastal regions and setting off a nuclear power plant failure. On view through June 12, 2016, the exhibition is the centerpiece of an institution-wide observance of what was the first natural disaster in Japan caught in its entirety by cameras. Public programs, films, performances and special events will be presented in conjunction with the exhibition at Japan Society to commemorate the anniversary and examine issues surrounding post-3/11 recovery and reconstruction. « more »

Manhattan Chamber of Commerce Grants the Asian American Film Lab

The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce (The “MCC”) has awarded the Asian American Film Lab (The “Film Lab”) another grant for its programming focused on diversity initiatives in the arts. This is the fourth grant The MCC has awarded the Film Lab since December 2012 and the funds constitute critical support for the Film Lab’s diversity, educational and outreach programming, which is generally offered to the public free of charge via live monthly programs and through the Film Lab’s production AAFL TV, which creates contemporary entertainment with positive and prolific portrayals of women and people of color. The Grand Tour: Big Apple Circus Family Benefit with Guest Ringmaster Jim Gaffigan Raised More Than $420,000

Big Apple Circus hosted its annual Holiday Season Family Benefit, a special event that raises funds for the nonprofit performing arts institution’s community programs, on Saturday, November 21, 2015 under the Big Top in Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center (62nd Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues), and featured comedian Jim Gaffigan as Guest Ringmaster. The event was attended by 1,100 audience members and raised more than $420,000 to support the company’s community programs. « more »
