Seven Taiwanese Films to be Featured in New York Asian Film Festival

If you like Taiwanese films, you’re in luck! The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO-NY) is working with the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) to bring you seven brand new Taiwanese films in July!

The selection includes the hit romantic film, You are the Apple of My Eye, which was a huge box office success in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Mainland China, as well as the original four hour, 36 minute cut of the epic, high-budget action film, Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale. As a special treat, the writer and director of You are the Apple of My Eye, Giddens Ko, and the film’s star, Michelle Chen, will be in New York to celebrate their film’s participation in this great festival.

This year’s collaboration between TECO-NY and NYAFF will be called Warriors and Romantics: The New Cinema from Taiwan and will feature seven films from 2011 and 2012. Two of the films, Din Tao: Leader of the Parade and Make Up, are making their North American debut, while some of the other five are screening for the first time in New York City. The director of TECO-NY’s Press Division, Brian Su, stated that “Taiwan’s film industry has undergone tremendous growth in the last few years. By organizing these kinds of large scale film festivals, we can bring the newest and best Taiwanese films to North American audiences, promoting cultural exchange and showcasing the pluralistic nature of Taiwan’s society and art.”

Warriors and Romantics: The New Cinema from Taiwan will have a total of 13 screenings and will run from July 1-11, beginning with a screening of You are the Apple of My Eye on July 1st at 6pm. Prior to the screening, the star of the film, Michelle Chen, will receive the Rising Sar Asia Award from the NYAFF organizers.
