Techno Prince Nezha Dance Parade in London

On Sunday July 29th around 3pm, AsianInNY’s UK correspondent Jill Chang attended the event “Run with the Third Prince for Olympics!” at Regent’s Park, London UK.

The growing popularity of the Techno Prince Nezha Dance Parade in Taiwan has sparked keen interest from foreign researchers interested in Taiwan’s culture. Wu Chien-heng lead the students from Taiwan to run with Third Prince to kick off Olympics in Taiwan. Up until now, Wu has danced in the deity outfit in a number of countries aside from India, including Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Thailand, Peru, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.

Nezha was originally the third son of a military commander named Li Jing during the Shang Dynasty (1766 BC – 1050 BC). He later became deified as a Taoist god of righteousness who would protect the common people. The dance parade of Third Prince Li Nezha, a deity in Chinese mythology in the form of a young warrior fighting demons, has long been part of the raucous performances at temple carnivals in Chinese communities.
