Forgetting the Details: A One-Woman Show by Nicole Maxali

Forgetting The Details Arrives at The New York Fringe Festival August 13th

Forgetting The Details, a solo show written by and featuring beautiful Filipina-American actress/comedienne Nicole Maxali, opens at The White Box (440 Lafayette Street) on Wednesday August 13th as part of the 18th Annual New York Fringe Festival. Paul Stein directs this endearing and humorous performance piece that addresses the timely topic of how to handle the sudden mental deterioration of a beloved relative while giving an insider’s perspective on the tightly knit Filipino culture.

“Funny, heart-warming and funny again.”— comedian, Dave Chappelle

One day Nicole Maxali returned to the San Francisco house she shared with her grandmother to find all the locks changed because her “lola” (Filipino Tagalog language for grandma) was convinced that a thief had stolen her wedding ring. Along with driving on the wrong side of the street and shop-lifting hip hop wear with the censors still attached, there were signs that began to reveal her once lively and resourceful grandmother’s descent into dementia. As the youngest in the family, Nicole was expected to remain at home and be the caregiver. Should she become a live-in nurse to her “lola” or pursue her dream of becoming the first Filipina-American actress to win an Academy Award? Dedicating herself to her acting, she created a schism between herself and her father, a would-be artist and musician whose own dreams of success went unsupported. Then when an unexpected family loss occurs, Nicole learns from both her grandmother and father that humanity lies in the bigger picture…not the details! « more »
