2nd Annual Miss Angel Model Contest Announces Finalists

The 2nd annual Miss Angel Model Contest (MAMC) today announced its top 11 finalists and premiered its first official song and video, entitled “Infinite Power”. Produced by Hoocaa, the Asian cultural marketing and entertainment organization, the Miss Angel Model Contest is an annual event that provides an opportunity for young Asian women in the New York City area between the ages of 16 and 28 to develop their leadership skills and become active members of the city’s Asian-American community. The competition will be recorded as part of an online reality show for the community to better understand and learn the contestants. From July 22 through September 13, new episodes of the show will be available on www.hoocaa.com. The finals for this year’s event will be held on September 13, 2014 at Queens Theatre in the Park. The winner will also serve a one-year role as an ambassador with the contest charity partner, The Promise Society, in addition to receiving other prizes and performance opportunities. “Our goal is to break with conservative Asian traditions and engage the younger generation and newly-arrived immigrants – and to encourage them to follow their dreams,” said MAMC spokesperson Esther Pang. “This event provides a platform for many young women to do just that, and allows us an opportunity to find great role models in the community who can serve as partners and ambassadors”.

“The Asian community is often considered to be a weak minority group that is largely made up of immigrants – and that they lack of confidence due to language barriers and cultural differences,” said MAMC founder Kyle Ho. “We want to break out the conservative, Asian traditional mindset and partner with passionate and professional young talent to show the community that everyone deserves the opportunity to be a success no matter where you from, what you do, and how hard your life is. We want to prove that Asians can also succeed in America, the land where dreams come true.”

There are 11 finalists with remarkable personal stories that include triumph over abuse, sexuality, and discrimination. Each contestant unique hopes to emphasize the potential for equal opportunity and to serve as successful role models for the community.
