Help Earthquake and Tsunami Victims in Japan

A magnitude 8.9 earthquake rocked Japan on March 11th and we, AsianInNY, want to send our condolences to those who are bearing the tragedies of this catastrophic event.  Please be strong our friends!

If you need to look for your beloved someone, you can utilize the site below: Person Finder: 2011 Japan Earthquake. Google has launched the Person Finder: 2011 Japan Earthquake to help connect people that may have been displaced due to the disaster. Google has also launched a crisis response page filled with local resources and emergency information.

Besides, foreign people in Japan and need an interpreter for an emergency communication in English, Chinese and Korean, please call ????????????? as there will be volunteering interpreters working 24/7 in Japan.  Also, there’s multi-language instruction for the earthquake victims: Japan earthquake how to protect yourself

We have gathered some options and ways you can help earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan:

O-en Network has set up a paypal for donation. O-en Network provides services to support Japanese families and their children especially in bilingual and heritage language education, especially school system in the US.

Japan Society has created an online disaster relief fund to aid victims of the Tohoku earthquake in Japan. You can also contribute by sending your check to: Japan Society (333 East 47th Street, New York, New York 10017) Attn: Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.

New York City Mayor’s Fund, people who want to donate should call 311 or go to the 311 Web site.

The Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund was launched at GlobalGiving.org to garner funds that will be given to a variety of relief organizations helping victims of the earthquake.

The Red Cross has already launched efforts in Japan. Visit Redcross.org or text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 from your phone.

Salvation Army personnel are organizing efforts in Tokyo and will soon send a team to help the severely damaged city of Sendai, Japan. To contribute to earthquake relief, text ‘JAPAN’ or ‘QUAKE’ to 80888 to make a $10 donation or visit SalvationArmyUSA.org.

MercyCorps is gathering donations for its overseas partner, Peace Winds Japan, which currently has personnel on the ground distributing emergency relief in Japan.
