UNIQLO Announces October Opening Dates for Its Two New Flagship Stores in NYC

UNIQLO, the global clothing retailer, announced today it will open its largest global flagship in the world, “UNIQLO New York Fifth Avenue,” on Friday, October 14th, and one week later its second largest global flagship in the world, “UNIQLO New York 34th Street,” on Friday, October 21st.

At 89,000 square feet, the UNIQLO New York Fifth Avenue store will be the largest single retailer on Fifth Avenue, and the UNIQLO New York 34th Street store is 64,000 square feet. This will be the brand’s second and third U.S. stores. UNIQLO opened its first global flagship store in New York’s SoHo district in 2006, and also opened flagship stores in London in 2007, Paris in 2009, Shanghai in 2010, Shinsaibashi in 2010, and Taipei in September 2011.

To staff the new stores, UNIQLO started the hiring of more than 1,100 new U.S. employees in April of this year.

“Opening stores on New York’s Fifth Avenue and 34th Street, the world’s top shopping destinations, is a long time dream for UNIQLO and a significant step for the future of our brand,” said Shin Odake. “Thanks to the tremendous support from the people of New York, UNIQLO is now able to deliver our unique shopping experience and outstanding customer service to not only New York, but to visitors from around the country and all over the world.”

The design concept of the store is a model for future UNIQLO stores globally. As it did for the opening of the SoHo store, UNIQLO has once again brought together a world-class team of creative minds to realize the best customer experience possible from store design to product layout to visual technology to customer service.

To celebrate the store openings, UNIQLO has launched a number of exciting partnerships and activities in New York taking place in the coming weeks including: support of a new, outdoor roller-skating rink below the High Line; six sleekly-designed, illuminating UNIQLO CUBES shops that can be seen at the High Line and events around the city; and three, new pop-up UNIQLO Brand Shops that will offer select products and UNIQLO’s signature customer service.
