Panel to discuss lack of roles for Asian actors on and off Broadway

A number of Asian actors are currently giving excellent performances on and off Broadway — from Hettienne Park in “Seminar” and Jennifer Lim in “Chinglish” to Li Jun Li and Nelson Lee in “Outside People.”

But chances for Asian actors to shine present themselves too infrequently, according to the Asian American Performer’s Action Coalition (AAPAC). Its mission is to increase Asian-American performers’ representation on the stage.

The group’s research, which one member calls “quite shocking” shows that only 1.6% of all available roles in new shows on Broadway during the last five years were filled by Asian actors.

On Feb. 13 at 7 p.m., AAPAC and Fordham University present a discussion with industry leaders moderated by “Chinglish” author David Henry Hwang on the subject at the school’s Pope Auditorium.
