Discovery Times Square will be displaying from 27 April 2012, the exhibition “Terracotta Warriors: Defenders of China’s First Emperor”. This exhibition, organised in collaboration with the China Institute, includes ten soldiers of baked clay from the Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi’s tomb from approximately 210 BC.

Discovered by chance in 1974 in the region of Xi’an in the centre of China, the emperor Qin’s buried army comprises of more than eight thousand soldiers of baked clay, each one about 1.80 meters tall and weighing approximately 270 kilos, along with statues of horses, weapons, and armour. It is sometimes considered to be the main post-war archaeological discovery and was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. However, some regularly contest its authenticity.

The exhibition is divided into three parts: first, the story of the Qin dynasty and the rise of the man considered as the first Chinese emperor. Next, the story relative to the burial site and the buried army itself and, finally, the birth of the Han dynasty (206 BC-220 AD), considered the founder of Chinese civilisation and whose influence can still be felt today. In addition to the soldiers, more than two hundred archaeological objects will also be displayed.

Discovery Times Square is a space dedicated to exceptional exhibitions. Exhibitions such as “Titanic: The Artefact Collection”, “Leonardo Da Vinci’s Workshop”, “Pompeii The Exhibit”, “Harry Potter: The Exhibition”, and even “Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition” have taken place there.

The China Institute was founded in 1926 by American and Chinese educators. It is dedicated to communication between these two cultures through exhibitions, exchange programmes, lectures and through his museum in New York dedicated to Chinese art. ‘)}
