Peridance Contemporary Dance Company's Spring Season 2012

Peridance Contemporary Dance Company is ready to lossom and make an ever-lasting impression in New York this Spring! The Company’s upcoming Season, opening May 5th, will be the first to take place at Peridance’s resident venue, the Salvatore Capezio Theater. The Company has been working diligently to reestablish itself in the New York dance community and is prepared to unveil a diverse repertory that includes world premieres by Artistic Director Igal Perry and NYC-based guest choreographers Kristin Sudeikis and Sidra Bell. The first weekend’s performances will also feature a special guest appearance by Jose Manuel Carreño, former Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theater.

PCDC’s program will include the New York City premiere of Mr. Perry’s “profoundly memorable” El Amor Brujo, with music by Manuel de Falla, which premiered last December to sold-out audiences in Washington, DC, in collaboration with PostClassical Ensemble. This sumptuous, Spanish-flavored work will be accompanied by a live orchestra, conducted by Angel Gil-Ordóñez, featuring Flamenco singer Marija Temo.

Mr. Perry’s world premiere, set to Henryk Górecki’s “String Quartet # 3,” will feature an on-stage live string quartet led by cellist Nan-Cheng Chen. In Ms. Sudekis’ new contemporary work, I am you., the dancers explore who they are as people and dancers, coming face-to-face with the audience, to the music of Devotcha and Ani DiFranco. Ms.Bell’s new work, the ungathered, continues to expand upon her current interest in human behavior and private space.

There will be a very special “Afternoon in Spain” performance on Sunday, May 6, at 2:30pm. This performance will bring El Amor Brujo into the spotlight as part of a full reportage of Flamenco Culture. Renowned Flamenco scholar Brook Zern and novelist Antonio Munoz-Molina will conduct a presentation of rare Flamenco films followed by an open discussion. This matinee is produced in collaboration with the Spanish Consulate and PostClassical Ensemble, Artistic Director Joseph Horowitz.
