Announcing the 2012 Margaret Filmmaker Award Jury

Mahen Bonetti is the founder and executive director of the New York African Film Festival, which is co-presented with the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Patricia Cardosois a Colombian-American director whose films include Real Women Have Curves, Lies in Plain Sight, and the forthcoming Meddling Mom.

Dan Cogan is the Executive Director and co-founder of Impact Partners, which is committed to financing independent cinema that addresses pressing social issues, and the founder of DMC Films, a film production company based in New York.

Judith Helfand is a filmmaker, activist, and educator whose films include The Uprising of ’34 (co-directed with George Stoney), the Sundance-award-winning Blue Vinyl (co-directed with Daniel B. Gold and nominated for two Emmy’s), and its Peabody Award-winning prequel A Healthy Baby Girl.

The Margaret Mead Filmmaker Award recognizes documentary filmmakers who embody the spirit, energy, and innovation demonstrated by anthropologist Margaret Mead in her research, fieldwork, films, and writings. Filmmakers with works making their U.S. premieres at the Festival are eligible.

Announcing the 2012 Margaret Mead Film Festival

Themed Whose Story is It?, the 2012 Margaret Mead Film Festival—the preeminent showcase for contemporary cultural storytelling—will screen 29 outstanding films and host special multi-media events and performances Thursday, November 29 through Sunday, December 2, 2012.
