TOPSHOP CELEBRATES LUNAR NEW YEAR WITH SHORT FILM ''THE LANTERNS''

The film, entitled “The Lanterns” features London’s iconic Houses of Parliament and Big Ben with Chinese lanterns flying overhead wishing all its Asian customers globally a happy and prosperous New Year.

The film will launch 30th of January on Topshop’s Chinese social networks and all of its platforms globally including You Tube, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest and Instagram. Chinese New Year falls on February 10th this year.

”We are really excited to be celebrating Chinese New Year with our customers both in China and all over the world. We wanted to create something fun that represented the spirit of the Topshop girl whilst capturing the energy of this special time of celebration and giving.” Justin Cooke, Chief Marketing Officer.

Topshop currently has over 10 million followers on it’s Chinese Weibo site and more than 6 million across its other social media channels.

Topshop has created limited edition lucky red gift cards and envelopes which will be available in its flagship stores and online globally – a Chinese New Year tradition to gift ‘Lucky Money’ as a wish of prosperity.

Every detail has been considered, even the length of the film which has been edited to 58 seconds to coincide with Chinese superstitions of numerology using the luckiest numbers 5 and 8, both of which are symbols of wealth and prosperity. The film ends with the most popular greeting ‘prosperous new year’ written both in traditional Chinese characters as well as in English.

Topshop will open its first store in China in May of this year, with a flagship in Hong Kong.
