“PASSPORT TO TAIWAN” BRINGS THE HEART OF ASIA TO NEW YORK CITY

Passport to Taiwan, the largest Taiwanese American festival in the U.S., announced that its 12th annual event will take place in Union Square on Sunday May 26th, from 12 to 5 p.m., to kick off the Taiwanese American Heritage Week. The one-day event invites New Yorkers to taste Taiwanese culture through authentic night market cuisine, traditional and contemporary performing arts as well as “Made In Taiwan” brands and crafts.

Opening with Techno Dancing Third Prince performance, “Passport to Taiwan” provides an adventurous voyage to Taiwanese traditional and contemporary music and performing art. Featured performance include Paiwan tribe nose flute music, fusion of classical music and Taiwanese folk music presented by The TAANY Chamber Ensemble, as well as the cutting edge voices brought by Taiwan and New York based band like 88 Balaz, Monkey Pilot, Hsu-Nami and Torpid May. Artist Shih-Pao Lin will also collaborate with Uzehi band for a live painting and music performance.

More than 20 food booths will each present one signature Taiwanese night market snack including A-Po’s pot stickers, oyster omelets, bubble tea, Aiyu jelly lemonade, vegetarian blood pudding, rice cakes, Taiwanses sausages, vermicelli stew, pork buns, crsipy chicken cutlets as well as Leicha, the Hakka styled tea drink mixing with green tea, peanuts and sesame that will be freshly made at the event.

In honor of National Bike Month, the festival also spotlights world-known and international award-winning bicycle brands from Taiwan that specializes in handcrafted bicycle in the “Made In Taiwan” section.

China Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines will sponsor the ticket raffle for roundtrip tickets to Taiwan. More informational materials and complementary souvenir will be provided at the Taiwan Tourism Bureau booth and travel agency area.
