McDONALD’S® NEW YORK METRO CELEBRATES THE YEAR OF THE HORSE

McDonald’s New York Metro will celebrate the Year of the Horse by sponsoring and participating at major events including the Chinatown and Flushing Lunar New Year Parades. Ronald McDonald® will also be appearing at the New Year Firecracker Ceremony & Cultural Festival and hosting a special Lunar New Year celebration at Manhattan’s P.S. 1 elementary school. McDonald’s 2014 Lunar New Year activities are the company’s largest to date in the New York Tri-State region.

To help kick off the Year of the Horse, Ronald McDonald will join city officials and Asian American community leaders at the 15th Annual New Year Firecracker Ceremony & Cultural Festival at Sara Roosevelt Park on January 31. On February 2 and 8, Ronald will be marching in the Better Chinatown Society’s 15th Annual Chinatown Lunar Year Parade and the 18th Annual Flushing Lunar New Year Parade, respectively. This will mark the first year that McDonald’s has participated in the Flushing event.

On February 6, McDonald’s will sponsor its 4th annual Lunar New Year celebration at Manhattan’s P.S. 1 elementary school in Chinatown for the school’s 600 students. The event will feature traditional cultural performances by Asian American youth organizations and a lion dance by the Chinese Free Mason Athletic Club.

“The Lunar New Year is a time to celebrate our families, communities and friends, which are universal values that everyone shares,” said Tony Scari, McDonald’s New York Metro Co-op President. “McDonald’s is very proud to be working again with terrific community institutions like the Better Chinatown Society and P.S. 1 elementary school as well as building a new relationship with the Flushing Lunar New Year Parade.”

McDonald’s Year of the Horse celebration kicks-off another exciting year of activity in the New York Tri-State Asian American community for the brand. This includes the annual Ronald McDonald House Charities® / ASIA Scholarship Program, the award-winning McDonald’s Martial Arts Dance Crew, in-school cultural programs, employment workshops and an all-new program to be announced in March.
