McDONALD’s® AND CHINATOWN’S P.S. 1 CELEBRATE THE YEAR OF THE HORSE

For the fourth year in a row, McDonald’s and Chinatown’s P.S. 1, Alfred E. Smith Elementary School celebrated the Lunar New Year with a special show for the school’s 600 students. Hosted by Ronald McDonald, the event featured the special cultural performances, a traditional fan and abacus dance performance by #Project Gen, stunts by acrobat Xia di Yang, and a traditional lion dance ceremony by the Chinese Free Mason Athletic Club.

McDonald’s 2014 Lunar New Year activities are the company’s largest to date in the New York Tri-State region. In addition to the celebration at P.S. 1, McDonald’s was also a sponsor of the Better Chinatown Society’s New Year Firecracker Ceremony and Lunar Year Parade and will be marching in the Flushing Lunar New Year Parade this Saturday.

“The Lunar New Year is a time to celebrate our families, communities and friends, which are universal values that everyone shares,” said Tony Scari, McDonald’s New York Metro Co-op President. “McDonald’s is very proud to be working again with terrific community institutions like P.S. 1 elementary school.”

McDonald’s Year of the Horse celebration kicks-off another exciting year of activity in the New York Tri-State Asian American community for the brand. This includes the annual Ronald McDonald House Charities® / ASIA Scholarship Program, the award-winning McDonald’s Martial Arts Dance Crew, in-school cultural programs, employment workshops and an all-new program to be announced in the spring.
