Asian American Young Professionals Announce the Launch of The Promise Society, a New Non-Profit Charitable Organization

The Promise Society officially announced its launch as a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to addressing important health and social issues in the community. The mission of ThePromiseSociety is to engage young professionals in promoting health, education, and improved quality of life for the underserved, while working with dedicated community partners to achieve this goal.

The Promise Society will be selecting several partner organizations that provide direct programs to the local community to support in 2014, pledging to host a dedicated fundraising or outreach event for these partners. The Promise Society will leverage their collective resources and network to accomplish goals through fundraising, outreach, education, and volunteering.

Building on their past success and collective involvement in the community, a dedicated group of young Asian American professionals took the first steps towards forming an official non-profit organization in late 2013. This month marks the beginning of their expanded involvement in a broader range of health and humanitarian efforts. Collectively, their board members have significant experience serving as board members of other non-profits, members of various fundraising committees, volunteering with various charities and partnering with other young professional groups to raise funds for non-profits, etc. From 2012-2013, the group raised over $30,000 for the American Cancer Society through various independent events. As The Promise Society, they aim to exceed their past achievements.

According to a 2012 Bureau of Labor Services survey, 23.2% of individuals between the ages of 25 and 34 volunteer their time. About two-fifths of volunteers get involved after being asked to volunteer. Elena Lum, Ph.D. President of The Promise Society noted, “As young professionals, we recognize that it is important to give back to the community but often don’t know how to get involved. By forming this organization, we can be the link between our partner organizations and our volunteers and sponsors. We will encourage many more young professionals to participate their time for important causes and help our partners achieve their goals.”

The Promise Society reflects a new generation of leaders who use fresh and innovative approaches to achieve our mission. Upcoming events include a book signing, a fitness event to promote an active lifestyle and their 5th annual Charity Date Auction.

The Promise Society welcomes all non-profit candidates who are interested in partnering.To learn more about volunteering or attending their upcoming events, please visit their website at www.thepromisesociety.com ‘)}
