New York Asian American Youth Conference – Not Your Model Minority: Challenging 21st Century Stereotypes

Saturday, May 28 09am to 04pm
East-West School of International Studies
46-21 Colden St, Fl 4th, Flushing, New York 11355

The New York Asian American Youth Conference is an Asian American youth-led and youth serving conference on contemporary Asian American issues. It is a collaboration between three community-based organizations: Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC), the Minkwon Center and Korean Community Service (KCS).

This year’s theme, Not Your Model Minority: Challenging 21st Century Stereotypes, reframes the unseen issues facing Asian American youth as the key to our future. While Asian Americans continue to grow as a prominent social, political, and cultural presence in the United States, our youth, in limbo between two cultures, face a growing need for history, identity, and community. This year’s conference is designed to open up dialogues for attendees to examine cultural taboos and stereotypes in the Asian American community and help them navigate issues relating to mental health, healthy relationships, and cultural identities.

Free admission.
