The AAFL TV / Film Lab movie The Opposite of a Fairy Tale by Jennifer Betit Yen, screened at HBO in New York City as part of a special holiday event co-hosted by HBO’s Mosaic group and Time Warner’s APEX group.

The special preview screening occurred on December 15, 2016, at the HBO Theatre and quickly reached capacity. The Opposite of a Fairy Tale is a fictional narrative film designed to draw light to the elder abuse epidemic in the United States. A panel moderated by HBO, featuring the film’s writer, actor Jennifer Betit Yen, mental health counselor Yoko Iwaki, filmmaker and actor Albert M. Chan, and elder law attorney Daniel G. Fish, followed the preview. Tai-Chen Bassin opened it up to the audience for further Q & A and then introduced special musical guest, Errmine. The event concluded with a catered networking reception.

Various versions of the film have previewed in New York, including a sold out preview at the Museum of Chinese in America, the Asian American International Film Festival, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Shorts Showcase, at private industry events with the New York Asian Women’s Center, the Jewish Association Serving the Aging at the Annual New York Conference on Elder Abuse, and more.
